(The Abode of Salvation)

In 8th-century India, the dying spiritual leader of a math, must choose a successor. His decision, set against a backdrop of rising Buddhism and political turmoil, ignites a power struggle. As caste tensions and rival philosophies clash, a shocking act of violence threatens to unravel everything.
Muktidham is a gripping political drama that explores how faith can legitimize power and how power can corrupt faith. With chilling parallels to our own time, this provocative play forces us to confront difficult questions about nationalism, gender, and the high cost of dissent.
Winner of the 2018 Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards for Best Original Script.
Muktidham was originally written in Hindi by Abhishek Majumdar and translated into English by Basab Pradhan. Thanks to Vidya Pradhan for reviewing the translation.
