About the play

A middle-aged, middle-class woman is the sole breadwinner in her family. Amidst the grind of her existence and a failing marriage, Adhe Adhure (Halfway House), is about her search for fulfillment. The original play in Hindi is one of the masterpieces of Mohan Rakesh, considered to be the first modern Hindi playwright. Written in 1969, the play’s words still sound fresh, like they were being spoken in today’s India.

Our staging of Adhe Adhure will be in English.

In-person auditions will be held on Nov 5 and 6, at our rehearsal studio at 1585 N. 4th Street, Unit I, San Jose 95112.

To audition, you must fill out the Audition Form below. If you are interested in auditioning but are not available on these dates, please indicate this in the Audition Form. We may be able to audition you separately, but would greatly prefer that you came to the main auditions.

Monologue auditions will be held on the morning of Nov 5. Each auditionee will be given an individual slot in which they will present a 2 minute dramatic monologue in English.  Auditionees who are successful in this stage of the audition will be invited to Callbacks to be held on the morning of Nov 6.  At the Callbacks, auditionees will read from the play’s script along with other auditionees.

The Callbacks on Nov 6 will start at 10:00am. This time is subject to change as we get closer to the audition day.

Actors who have been in the cast of a recent BADCo production may come straight to Callbacks but they must still fill out the Audition Form.

Please fill out and submit your Audition Form to receive further instructions about the audition process.

If you would like to be a part of the crew of Adhe Adhure, as part of the backstage or design teams, please write to vaishnavi@bayareadrama.company
